FULL TEXT: Chambéry, March 30. - A few days ago Mrs. F…, on
the way to the Military Hospital, showed two neighbors two mummified newborn
corpses, which she had found, she said, in a trunk indiscreetly opened by her
at a friend's house, Mme Marguerite Martinet, war widow, living in rue du Lanth
and from Elne (Pyrénées-Orientales). The neighbors recounted the fact which
reached the ears of the police. Mime F ... questioned, confirmed that in
the trunk she had found a certain quantity of bones; and two corpses of
children, one of which presented a complete torsion of the neck. She had then
burned the bones and taken away the corpses she had shown, then, on the advice
of the neighbors, she had brought them back to Marguerite Martinet.
The two women then had an altercation, Mrs. F ... having
asked for explanations. Marguerite Martinet began to cry and asked Mme F ...
not to denounce her. But the police, already built; opened an
investigation and interviewed the war widow. She began by denying
energetically, then, in the face of evidence, had to admit that for eight years
she had been a mother six times and that five times she had suppressed
children; only one had found favor, he is now 13 months old, as a nurse, at
Motte-Servoiex. She is also the mother of a thirteen year old child. Marguerite
Martinet, imprisoned. Had declared that no one had assisted her in the

y a quelques jours Mme F…, chemin de l’Hôpital-Militaire,
montrait à deux voisines deux cadavres nouveau-nés momifiés, qu'elle avait trouvés,
disait-elle, dans une malle indiscrètement ouverte par elle chez une amie, Mme Marguerite Martinet, veuve de guerre, domiciliée rue du
Lanth et originaire d'Elne (Pyrénées-Orientales). Les voisines racontèrent le fait
qui'arriva aux oreilles de la gendarmerie. Mime F... interrogée, confirma que dans
la malle elle avait trouvé une certaine quantité d'ossements; et deux cadavres d'enfants
dent l'un présèntait une torsion complete du cou. Elle avait alors brûlé les ossements
et emporté les cadavres qu'elle avait montrés, puis, sur le conseil des voisines,
elle les avait rapportés chez Marguerite Martinet.
Les deux femmes eurent alors une altercation, Mme F...ayant,
demandé des explications. Marguerite Martinet se mit à pleurer et demanda à Mme
F...de ne pas la dénoncer. Mais la gendarmerie, déjà édifiée; ouvrit une enquê te
et interrogee la veuve de guerre. Celle-ci commença par nier énergiquement puis,
devant l'evidence, dut reconnaître que de puis huit ans elle avai tété six fois
mère et que cinq fois elle avait supprimé les enfants; un seul avait trouvé grâce,

Notin fut écrouée, la jeune R... et sa mère ont ètè laissèes en libertè proviso
ire. La gendarmie continue son enquête et l’on s’attend à d’autres
arrestations.
