Vickie Dawn Jackson was a serial killer nurse who never confessed yet was sentenced to life in prison on the evidence and a “no contest” plea.
“Ever since she was a little girl, Vickie Dawn Jackson wanted to be Florence Nightingale. As a nurse at her tiny hometown hospital in Nocona, she cared for her patients and won praise from her supervisors—until the day she snapped and started killing her friends and neighbors.” [Skip Hollandsworth, “Angel of Death,” Texas Monthly, Jul. 2007]
In 2000 and 2001 during Vickie Dawn Jackson’s night shift at tiny Nocona General Hospital 22 paients died. on other shifts during the same period there was a single death. The hospital had only 45 beds and the dead patients had hospitalized for “minor ailments - including a foot sore, diarrhea or dementia.”
It was when in February 2002 that it was noticed that more than 20 bottles of Mivacurium Chloride, or Mivacron, were missing, that the hospital pharmacist alerted law enforcement. Mivacurium chloride is “used to temporarily paralyze patients during emergency care, stopping the natural breathing process to relax the chest muscles. It can result in death if improperly used.”
An investigation turned up a syringe with traces of the drug was found in Jackson’s discarded trash. Jackson was suspected of murder but more evidence was required so the bodies of 10 of her patients were exhumed. All showed traces of mivacurium chloride.
He was forced out of her job and in July 2002 was arrested and indicted for causing 10 deaths.
“FBI Special Agent David Burns testified that Jackson, a licensed vocational nurse, was angered by patients when other nurses were compassionate and showed humor.”
It was not until Oct. 3, 2006 that Jackson gave up her efforts to go free. She made a “no contest” plea and two days later was sentenced to life in prison. [R St. E.]

Having just watched a documentary about this killer, al I can say is that American hospitals make it so easy for these so called Angels of Death to carry on killing. They seemed more scared of getting sued for wrongful dismissal, than they cared about the abnormally high death rate---which, in a 45 bed hospital would have been very noticeable. I wonder if the Hospital authorities were ever taken to task for this?
