Pidada Jovanovits, Poisoning Gang Leader – Serbia, 1908

FULL TEXT (Translated from Hungarian): In Panchová, as reported to us from there, Nikolics Kosta, a thirty-eight-year-old fiacre driver, died the other day.

On the same day, someone secretly informed István Madaras, head of the gendarmerie, that Nikolics had been poisoned.

Madarasi informed Sergeant György Benedek about the matter, who in turn communicated the secret to Deputy Sándor Szvoboda, Deputy Underwriter, Head of the Criminal Department.

The authority ordered the autopsy of the deceased.

The autopsy found, by examining the soles of his feet, that Nikolics had indeed been poisoned.

Suspicion was directed against the widow, in whose apartment a bottle full of hydrochloric acid and an arsenic mixture was found.

Under the weight of the evidence, the woman made a confession and admitted that she had poisoned her husband because she had abused her.

He also said he committed the act at the encouragement of a fifty-six-year-old nominee named Jovanovits Pidada. Both assassins were arrested.

Madarasi értesitette a dologról Benedek György őrsvezetőt, a ki viszont közölte a titkot Szvoboda Sándor helyettes aljegyzővel, a bűnügyi osztály vezetőjével.

A hatóság erre elrendelte a halott fölboncolását.

Mind a két asszoynt letartóztatták.
