On Aug. 30, 2010, in the Messiah Lutheran Church parking lot Elizabeth Cuevas Villanueva, 49, stabbed her 48-year-old ex-boyfriend, multiple times in the head and shoulders with an ice pick with an ice pick he was inside his car. She had hidden herself in the backseat of her victim’s Mercedes Benz convertible in preparation for the attack. He had been attending a community group meeting. Villanueva ran from the scene but was detained by officers near Abbey Lane and Liverpool Street. The weapon was recovered near the scene.
The attack occurred as the victim prepared to drive away.
During the struggle, the victim accidently stepped on the accelerator pedal
instead of the brake and slammed into a tree. He suffered non-life-threatening
injuries.
Villanueva and the victim had lived together and had ended
their dating relationship four months before the attack. On October 17, 2012,
Villanueva pleaded guilty to attempted murder and domestic battery with
corporal injury and admitted sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily
injury and the personal use of a deadly weapon. She was sentenced to 17 years
in prison.
