FULL TEXT (Translated from Hungarian): Deaths have been common for some time in Starchova and the surrounding villages of Timisoara.

Men in particular died and their deaths were usually preceded by a few weeks of atrophic disease.

Last week, the secret of the frequent death was revealed.

Brandy-drinking is very widespread among the Romanian people in the south.

From this, the women suffered the most, because the brandy-sotted ones usually beat and beat their women.

Zsófia Tonaszic, an old woman from Starcsova, rumored that she knew such a remedy that even the most insidious person would give up brandy.

For this, the old woman's business soon started and she could hardly be convinced to make the medicine, which was nothing but the boiled juice of dried dog milk plants and lander leaves. She mixed this into the brandy and this was what the drunken husbands had to drink.

With anguished groans, the weaker ones were sent to bed in just a few days.

The stronger ones dragged on, but eventually they also perished.

The women didn’t care much about the dead husbands because they got rid of the many beatings.

However, a woman named Szacs Vacsuneszkü reported the poison-mixing woman due to the death of her husband, and the investigation started from this.

Zsófia Tonaszic was captured by the police.

So far, fourteen deadly poisonings have been proven against her.

Starčevo (Serbian Cyrillic: Старчево) is a town located in the Pančevo municipality, in the South Banat District of Serbia. It is situated in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The town has a Serb ethnic majority and its population is 7,473 people (2011 census).  The name of the town means "the place of the old man" in Serbian (starac, "elder"). The Neolithic Starčevo culture was named after a type site in the area.

FULL TEXT: A temesmegyei Sztárcsova és a környékbeli községekben egy idő óta gyakoriak voltak a halálesetek.

Különösen iérfiak haltak el s halálukat rendszerint pár heti sorvasztó betegség előzte meg.

A múlt héten azután kiderült a gyakori halálesetnek titka.

A délvidéki román nép között ugyanis nagyon el van terjedve a pálinkaivás.

Ettől az asszonynép szenvedett legtöbbet, mert a bepálinkázott térjek rendszerint ütötték-verték asszonyaikat.

Tonaszic Zsófia sztárcsovai öreg aszszony elhíresztelte, hogy ő tud olyan orvosságot, hogy attól a legiszákosabb ember is leszokik a pálinkaivásról.

Erre csakhamár megindult a vén asszony üzlete s alig győzte az orvosságot készíteni, ami pedig nem volt más, mint szárított kutyatej-növény és leánderlevelek kifőzött leve.

Ezt keverte be pálinkába s ezt kellett az iszákos férjeknek inni.

A mérges kotyvalék a gyengébb szervezetüeket már pár nap alatt ágyba döntötte.

Az erősebb szervezetüek tovább húzták, de ezek is belepusztultak.

Az asszonyok nem sokat törődtek az elpusztult férjekkel, mert megszabadultak a sok veréstől.

Vacsuneszkü Szida nevű asszony azonban férje halála miatt feljelentette a méregkeverő asszonyt s ebből indult ki a vizsgálat.

Tonaszic Zsófiát a csendőrség elfogta. Eddig tizennégy halálos végű mérgezést bizonyítottak rá.

Teresa Palko – Serial Killer – Serbia, 1905

FULL TEXT: (Translated from Hungarian) – We have already mentioned the sensational poison-mixing case in Peterréve . As is reported from Szabadkáról, the investigation is becoming more widespread. Recently, four dead mourners were dug up. One of these, according to the testimony of sinners, was taken underfoot 17 years ago. The inner parts of the bulls were sent to the National Institute of Chemistry in Budapest. During the investigation, most guilty women make broken and repentant confessions. so then even the previously secret cases came to light. Notably, István Sinkovits was also arrested this week, who, with the help of Mrs. István Salgó's mercenary, poisoned her husband with slowly killing fly powder. The poisoned husband felt horrible torments and because he could not get rid of them, he committed suicide in despair. At the time, they could not give an explanation for the suicide of the wealthy man, now then the secrets were revealed. The gendarmerie also arrested Ms. Anna István Gór Király, who is being trampled by the ugly accusation of angel-making, on the basis of confessions. Who knows how many little soul killers this woman stripped of human feeling. The “Mari Jáger” from Péterréve, called Teresa Palkó, wanted to escape the earthly justice and drank five servings of half-gram sublimit lozenges. She became seriously ill, yet still survived.

FULL TEXT (Translated from Hungarian): The Novi Sad jury resumed today and ended the trial of the poison mixers in Péterréve, which began yesterday, at seven in the evening. During the investigation, Ms. Mibály Márkus, Ms. Jójsef Pörhe and Mrs. Ferenc Boldizsár admitted to poison mixing. At the final hearing the latter two withdrew the confession. After the charges against them could not be proved with regard to the crimes committed several years ago, prosecutor Antal Meszlényi dropped the charge and the accused were released. Márkus was charged by the prosecutor with murder. Dr. Barta Eélix after a lawyer's speech, jurors found him guilty of homicide, before the court, presided over by Lajos Ringhoffer, sentenced Márkus to life in prison. Defendant appealed, and counsel filed a nullity complaint.

FULL TEXT: Már bárom Ízben is megemlékeztünk a péterrévei monstre- mérgezési ügyről. Mint Szabadkáról irj ák, a vizsgálat mind szélesebb mederben folyik. Legutóbb négy halott sirját ásták föl. Egyikét ezeknek, a bűnösök vallomása szerint, 17 év előtt tették el láb alól. A bullák belső részeit felküldötték Budapestre az országos vegyészeti intézetbe. A vizsgálat során a legtöbb bűnös asszony megtört és bűnbánó vallomást tesz. így azután az eddig még titokban volt esetek is napfényre kerültek. Nevezetesen letartóztatták e héten Sinkovits Istvánnét is, aki Salgó Istvánné béresnéje segítségével lassan ölő légyvesztő porral mérgezte meg urát. A megmérgezett férj iszonyú kínokat érzett és mert nem tudott azoktól szabadulni, kétségbeesésében öngyilkossá lett. Akkoriban nem tudták magyarázatát adni a jómódban levő ember öngyilkosságának, most azután világosság derült a titokra. Ugyancsak letartóztatta a csendőrség a vallomások alapján Király Istvánné Gór Anna asszonyt is, akit pedig az angyalcsinálás ocsmány vádja nyom. Ki tudja hány kis lélek megölője ez az emberi érzésből kivetkőzött asszony. A péterrévei „Jáger Mari“, akit Palkó Teréznek hívnak, menekülni akart a földi igazságszolgáltatástól s öt adag fél grammos szublimit pasztillát ivott meg. Nagy kint állott ki. de mégis életben maradt.

FULL TEXT: Az újvidéki esküdtbiróság ma folytatta és este hétkor befejezte a péterrévei méregkeverök dolgában tegnap megkezdett tárgyalást. A vizsgálat során Márkus Mibályné, Pörhe Jójsefné és Boldizsár Ferencné beismerte a méregkeverést; a végiárgyaláson a két utóbbi, visszavonta a beismerést. Miután a több év előtt történt bűntettekben nem lehetett a vádat rájuk bizonyítani, Meszlényi Antal ügyész a vádat elejtette, mire a vádlottakat szabadlábra helyezték. Márkusnét az ügyész gyilkossággal vádolta. Barta Eélix dr. ügyvéd beszéde után az esküdtek férjgyilkosságban bűnösnek találták, mire a bíróság Ringhoffer Lajos elnöklésével Márkusnét életfogytig tartó fegyházra ítélte. A vádlott fölebbezett, a védő semmiségi panaszt jelentett be.
