Natthakan Anaman, Thai Double Black Widow - 2002

Natthakan Anaman, 55, a former behavioral science nurse from Bankok, Thailand was convicted on February 24, 2004 of insurance fraud. She had also been indicted for the murder of her husband, Roon Khuaklang, but homicide charges were thrown out due to lack of prosecutable evidence. This decision was later supported on appeal. The fraud conviction earned Natthakan a 20 year prison sentence. Police believed that that she drugged Roon, causing him to get involved in a car accident. After he was released from hospital, he was killed by coffee laced with poison, allegedly made by Natthakan.

The case was notable for the use of new investigative methods initiated in 2002 by Bankok’s Crime Suppression Division. According to (CSD) chief Pongpat Chayaphan, Natthakan likely murdered another husbands by drugging him, causing them to fall asleep while driving causing their deaths in automobile wrecks.

Natthakan collected 7 million baht (US$179,487) in insurance money after the death of her first husband - Air Vice Marshal Kittiphan Muangkhot - who died April 8, 2000. Several months later, Natthakan married a Roon, 31-year-old man who died in February 2001. He was insured with 18 companies for 36 million baht (US$923,076), which Natthakan also collected. She was arrested in March 2002 after police received complaints from insurance companies.

Judge Anan Sankhum said he gave Natthakan a reduced sentence because she cooperated with investigators.
