Anne Aline Palmer, Another “Allotment Annie” Bigamy-for-Profit Scammer - 1945

FULL TEXT: Sarasota, Florida – Anne Aline Palmer, pretty 20-year-old alleged bigamist, arrested here in March, 1944, by sheriff deputies, will come before Federal Judge Barker in Tampa tomorrow, where she will be tried on charges of cashing allotment checks from two of her three husbands.

Her attorney, Clarence J. Stokes, Sr., stated that he had persuaded Anne, who has been out on bail for over six months, to return to Florida this week from New Jersey, and that he had turned her over to the United States marshal in Tampa yesterday, in order to be relieved of the $500 bond posted for her.

Stokes said he was working toward a parole sentence. The penalty for cashing more than one government allotment check is a year in prison, or a $500 fine. Stokes stated that if his client was fined, she could swear out a pauper’s affidavit, and serve an additional 30 days, and be freed.

Mrs. Palmer, who first was married when she was 14, has borne three names: Anne Capers, Anne Ambra and Anne Aline Palmer. She has declared that she believed herself divorced from her first husband, when she subsequently married her husband.
