Frau Szari & Her Husband-Poisoning Syndicate – Hungary, 1909

FULL TEXT (translated from German): At the Hungarian prosecutor's office in Gross Kanizsalich in the Vorhahre, Somogyer county, there is an indication a poisoners gang is doing their work, and it has taken the life of  prominent businessman Bendel Szari. Incidentally, numerous sudden deaths have occurred throughout the county in recent months. The public prosecutor's office initiated a comprehensive investigation and conducted a search of Szari’s widow, whereby a larger quantity of henbane seeds was found.

The corpse of Mr. Szari has been exhumed and at the autopsy poison was found in the stomach of the deceased, enough to kill five persons. The prosecution had the widow Szari arrested but she persistently denied it.

The revelations of the investigation are to lead to imminent sensational arrests. In addition, the public prosecutor’s office ordered numerous further exhumations, which will take place during the night.

FULL TEXT: Bei der Staatsanwaltschaft in Grosskanizsalich im Vorhahre eine anzeige ein, dass im Somogyer Komitat eine Giftmischerbande ihr Umwesen treibe, der auch der Wirtschaftsbestzer Bendel Szari zum Opfer siel. Während der letzten Monate sind übrigens zahlreiche plötzliche Todesfälle im ganzen Komitat vorgekommen. Die Staatsanwwaltschaft leitete umfassende Recherchein ein und liess auch bei der Witwe des Szari eine Hansdurchsuchung vornehmen, wobei eine grössere Menge Bilsenkrautsamen gefunden wurde.

Es wurde nun die Leiche des Szari exhumert und bei der Obduktion wurde im Magen des Verstorbenen eine fünf Personen zu vergiften. Die Staatsanwaltschaft liess die Szari verhaften, die jedoch hartnäckig leugnet.

Die Erhebungen förderten derartiges Material zutage, dass sensaionelle Verhaftungen bevorstehen. Ausserdem ordnete die Staatsanwaltschaft noch zahlreiche weitere Erhumierungen an, die in den nächtigen Tagen stattfinden werden.
