FULL TEXT: Mrs. L. J. Vibbard of Sweetwater, who has been
employed in an Abilene cafe for several months, was charged with cashing
allotment checks from two men in the armed forces in federal court here
yesterday.
Mrs. Vibbard was held in the county jail at Sweetwater last
night in lieu of bond. Charges were filed here by an FBI agent.
She was married by common law to L. J. Vibbard in 1937, it
is alleged, and the couple had three children. According to report made by the
FBI agent, she was married to James Hope without obtaining divorce, and later
to Cpl. Robert E. Keyse, formerly stationed at Camp Barkeley, also without
divorce. She is reported to have cashed at least six allotment checks.
County Attorney Charles Nunn of Sweetwater said yesterday
that Mrs. Vibbard will not be prosecuted for bigamy if she, is prosecuted in
federal court for cashing the checks. “In the event she is not, we shall
prosecute her for bigamy.”
