Mrs. Ulter, Hackensack Husband-Beater – New Jersey 1900

FULL TEXT: Hackensack, N. J., Jan. 4. – The first woman to be convicted here of husband beating was tried before Judge Zabriskie to-day. The accused woman was Mrs. Ulter, thirty years old, of Little Ferry. She is a pretty woman, and her husband says she is very strong.

Ulter is fifty-five years old, and is not as strong as his wife. He says that his wife is bound to have her own way, and that some time ago, when he tried to give her some advice, instead of doing as he told her she gave him a severe beating. Judge Zabriskie, after hearing all the evidence, concluded that Mrs. Ulter was guilty. Sentence was not pronounced to-day.
