McVean, a widow, and threw vitriol in her face, blinding her and causing burns that may result fatally. Several weeks ago Mrs. McVean gave the police department a box of candy which she said she received through the mail. Before
becoming unconscious Mrs. McVean told her sister that a strange woman, whom she
described, called her to the door by ringing the bell and threw the contents of
the bottle in her face. No other person saw the acid thrown.
