FULL TEXT (Translated from French): Ferns, June 18. - Who does not still remember the sinister exploits of Marie Dubois, the slayer of children of Saint-Christophe-de-Valains, near Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, in Ille-et-Vilaine.
Concealing her pregnancies, this girl, who was a servant at Michel Laurent, a farmer in the village of Croix-Brisée, had three times clandestinely given birth: the first time, she had given birth to a girl whom she strangled by squeezing her throat with both hands, and then buried a field of potatoes; the second time, she had a daughter, who was also full-term and very much alive, whom she strangled like the first and whom she buried in a field of cabbages; and lastly, she gave birth to a third child, whom she suckled and gave to the pigs on the farm to eat.
Arrested following an anonymous denunciation, the Dubois girl made a confession.
But public rumor accused her boss, who was also her lover, of complicity in the three crimes. He was not initially worried. Following revelations made during the judicial investigation, the affair turned into a new and tragic incident.
Recently the investigating judge of Fougères issued a warrant against the boss.

des sinistres exploits de Marie Dubois, la tueuse
d'anfants de Saint-Christophe-de-Valains, près Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier, dans
l'Ille-et-Vilaine.
Dissimulant ses grossesses, cette fille, qui était servante chez Michel Laurent, cultivateur
au village de la Croix-Brisée, était accouchée
trois fois clandestinement : la première fois, elle avait donné le jour à
une fille qu'elle étrangla en lui serrant la gorge avec ses deux mains, et
qu'elle enterra ensuite datas un champ de pommes de terre ; la seconde fois,
elle eut une fille, venue également à terme et bien vivante, qu'elle étranigla
comme la première et qu'elle enterra dans un champ de choux ; enfin,
dernièrement, elle accouchait d'un troisième enfant qu'elle étrajnigiait et qu'elle
donnait à
dévorer aux pourceaux de la ferme.
Arrêtée à la suite d'une dénonciation anonyme, la fille
Dubois fit des aveux.
Mais la rumeur publique accusait de complicité, dans les trois crimes, son patron,
qui était en même temps son amant. Celui-ci ne fut pas d'abord inquiété. A la suite
de révélations faites au cours de l'instruction judiciaire, l'affaire s'est
corsée d'un nouvel et tragique incident.
Récemment le juge d'instruction de Fougères lançait contre le patron un mandat d'amener.
Le fermier, apprenait que les gendarmes se dirigaient vers sa demeure pour
l'arrêter, prit la, fuite et disparut. On ne savait ce qu'il était devenu. Il
errait dams la campagne, évitant de se montrer sur les routes.
Il y a quelques jours, des habitants de Combourg trouvaient sur la voie ferrée,
à quatre ou cinq lieues de Saint-Christophe, le cadavre d'un inconnu dont ils
ne pouvaient découvrir l'identité.
Or, cette identité est établie. Le mort mystérieux n'est autre que le patron Michel Laurent, qui, affolé par les poursuites dont il était l'objet ou voulant échapper aux responsabilités, s'est suicidé en se jetant, la nuit, sur les rails au passage d'un train.
