In 1998, Alma Cleotilde Grand Pérez, of Tegucigalpa, Honduras,
was arrested and convicted of a series of three murders. The victims were all
men: José
Cabrera, Tiburcio López and Manual Rivera.
The “Witch Cleo” (La Bruja Cleo) was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
Cleo dismembered the corpses with an ax and used them in
satanic rites. She kept the remains of
her victims in her home. Human body parts were found in her stove.
Photographs of Cleo in her cell were taken by the
International Commission on Human Rights and published in the Honduran press.
