Ursula Flepone, Serial Baby-Killer Child Provider – Italy, 1879

FULL TEXT (translated from French) – Mothers who entrust your children to mercenary hands, read attentively the horrible fact that happened a few months ago in a small village in Tuscany:

In the said village there was a certain woman, who had the profession of nurse, her name was Ursula Flepone; she could well have been in her thirty to thirty-five years. She lived alone in a neat little house in the middle of the fields, and therefore very withdrawn from other dwellings. Four wealthy people had entrusted their infants to him. The dear little beings had no idea in what hands their worthy mothers had placed them. Poor cherubim! ... As the parents of babies came to see their children very rarely, Ursula had them well and relied on that. She wrote incessantly to parents asking them either for money, or for useful items, she said, from the children. The parents hastened to send whatever the nanny asked them. When Ursula judged that the parents had given enough she .... suppressed the child! .... And so it was that in the space of fourteen months she wrote to nine parents that their children had died leaving their teeth weak ... A few parents having consulted together learned the sad truth about the death of their children. Ursula poisoned them with arsenic mixed with milk that she gave them ... She was arrested and sentenced to death. Guilty mothers who drive your children away from you, ponder this drama, and remember it in the future.
