Carrie E. Allen, Virginia Black Widow - 1999

FULL TEXT: Richmond, Va. – A woman who told a judge that her husband was a “pitiful”  man who cheated on her and neglected his son has been sentenced to life in prison for killing him, the second time she’s gone to prison for murdering a spouse.

Carrie E. Allen, 53, was sentenced Tuesday for first-degree murder in the death of Richard A. Allen at their suburban Richmond home last October. She pleaded guilty.

“I am sorry that he’s dead,” she told the court. “I know I was the one that fired the gun, but I was not the one that caused it.”

Allen was convicted in April 1988 of second-degree murder in Hanover County for killing her first husband, Percy M. Adams, Sr. Adams was shot once in the chest and four times in the back. She served less than a year for that slaying.

In the first killing, Allen claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse and shot Adams in self-defence.
