Jennie Cosgrove Dumped Acid On Estranged Husband As 9-Year-Old Daughter Waited To See Her Mama - 1906


FULL TEXT: Mrs.  Jennie Cosgrove, of Warrensburg, N. Y., is locked up at police headquarters on an assault charge of seriously burning her husband with vitriol. She will be arraigned before Police Justice William J. Delany this morning. The victim is James  Cosgrove, 40 years of age, salesman for the dressed-beef concern of Swift & Company. He is in a serious condition. Mrs. Cosgrove registered at the Commercial Hotel early Saturday evening The couple have not lived together for over two years. Yesterday morning she sent word to Cosgrove that she desired a conference with him, and also wished to see their nine-year-old daughter. Cosgrove, accompanied by the child, went to the hotel. He left the young daughter in the office and was shown to his wife’s room. As soon as be entered the room his wife broke a bottle of vitriol over his head and shoulders. Cosgrove ran from the room and received prompt medical attention. Mrs. Cosgrove was arrested.
