Linda Thompson, “Allotment Annie” War Bride Hoaxer – Colorado, 1947


FULL TEXT: Pueblo – Accused of having three husbands without any divorces and of illegally procuring and cashing government allotment checks, 17-year-old Linda Thompson is being held in jail following arraignment here on a Philadelphia grand jury indictment.

The girl, according to her admissions to Deputy U. S. Marshal M. C. Dameron, married Feb. 6, 1946, but left him in five months and on March 5 this year married William E. Thompson in Tampa, Fla.

She still is using his name, but on Oct. 26 this year she married Floyd Rathburn of Colorado Springs at Raton, N. M. The indictment charges the girl cashed three government allotment checks illegally.

U. S. Commissioner H. Myers Bumgardner of Pueblo set her bond at $1,000 pending removal to Philadelphia for hearing.
