Françoise Navez, Serial Killer Nurse – Belgium, 2007

On November 12, 2009, the Assize Court of Hainaut in Belgium sentenced killer nurse Françoise Navez to 15 years' imprisonment. She was found guilty of murdering patients Julia Tricot and Yvette Vandemergel, and of having attempted to murder Marcelle Georges by poisoning. The crimes occurred at "Les Amarantes" nursing home in the Village of Loverval in Gerpinnes between November 2006 and February 2007.

She had worked as a nurse for 25 years before committing the crimes for which she was convicted.

~ Case #1: Yvette Vandemergel

Françoise Navez admitted to having injected high doses of insulin into Yvette Vandemergel on her initiative, knowing that it was illegal. He died Nov. 4, 2006

~ Case #1: Marcelle Georges

Later the day of Vandemergel’s death nurse Navez repeated the same procedure with Marcelle Georges (age unknown). She was admitted to the hospital Vésale in the night of 4 to 5 November 2006, however, survived. The dose of insulin would have been fatal if the victim had not been quickly treated by the SMUR. Nurse Navez, rumored to be an alcoholic, was quickly suspected but denied the facts, blaming a night watchman, and was summarily cleared.

~ Case #3: Julia Tricot

On February 25, 2007, Julia Tricot, an 81-year-old "Les Amarantes" resident was admitted to the Charleroi civil hospital for hyperglycemia, an abnormally high blood sugar level, which led to her death on the following days.  The victim, suffering from Alzheimer's, bedridden, subcomatous and incontinent, was unable to self-administer any product. The death was therefore suspect.

~ Conviction

An investigation commenced and Navez finally arrested on May 21, 2008. She confessed to the three insulin attacks.  On November 12, 2009 Navez was convicted by the Assize Court of Hainaut and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
